Vans x David Bowie Collection
Music icon David Bowie’s influence cannot be underestimated, which is why Vans is following up its recent Led Zeppelin collab with a Bowie-themed collection of sneakers. Vans has officially announced that the collection, comprising six sneakers and an accompanying apparel capsule, will be available at Vans and select retailers starting today, April 5.Comprising some of the California brand’s most popular models, the Slip-On, Era, Old Skool, and Sk8-Hi, each sneaker references a different record or character from Bowie’s career. The Era, for example, is inspired by Bowie’s first hit single, “Space Oddity,” from 1969. The sneaker’s colorway and geometric graphics match the cover art of the singer’s second self-titled record, which contained the song. The Slip-On 47 V includes a fuzzy checkerboard upper reminiscent of the coat seen on Bowie on his Hunky Dory album art. The Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 pays tribute to Bowie’s glam-rock alter ego Ziggy Stardust, while the Vans Old Skool is inspired by Aladdin Sane. The Classic Slip-On is the only model that shouts out Bowie’s post-glam career, referencing his final album Blackstar via a black star on the upper and a galaxy of stars on the footbed. The second Sk8-Hi features a checkerboard side panel and the Bowie name text used on 1974’s Diamond Dogs cover art.
